OUR PROGRAMS

Colorado Calvert Academy is committed to meeting each student at their academic level. This includes students who learn differently from "the norm".

Exceptional Student Services

Individualized Education Plan (IEP) - Traditional Special Education, and part of the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) students on IEPs have a recognized educational disability that interferes with their ability to learn/retain material. Students must require specialized instruction and modification (a change to the "what") to curriculum. Plans are created with parents and reviewed annually to adjust goals. Program eligibility is reviewed every 3 years (triennially). Special Education services stop when a student has progressed to grade level and no longer requires specialized instruction or modification, a parent requests removal, a student graduates High School or a student turns 21, whichever comes first. They do not extend into the workplace or secondary education.

504 Accommodation Plan (504) - From the Office of Civil Rights, a Section 504 Accommodation Plan is for students with a diagnosed disability that interferes with a life process who simply need a way to level the playing field. Accommodations change how material is presented, not what or the amount of material presented. Plans are created with parents and reviewed annually to ensure students are receiving appropriate accommodations. Students cannot be requested out of a plan and do not age/test out of them. Section 504 Plans carry through high school and into the workplace and secondary education options.

Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) - Advanced Learning Plans assist our Gifted and Talented learners with creating a learning environment on their level. Students undergo a qualification process to receive their identification. Once identified, a student maintains their Gifted and Talented status, even if a parent chooses not to engage in a formal program or plan. Plans are created with parents and reviewed annually to ensure a student is receiving the appropriate enrichment.

English Language Learner Plan (ELL) - Our English Language Learner Plans are designed around students who's first language is other than English. While not necessarily specific to or providing instruction in their native language, ELL plans may not be appropriate to bi-lingual learners. Rather, ELL plans provide strategies for bridging the gap and moving ELL students into English proficiency. Students will be evaluated to determine their level of English proficiency and placement on a plan. Plans are created with parents and reviewed annually. Students are removed from plans once they have attained an appropriate level of proficiency.

Note: Students may be on more than one plan at a time. Each plan addresses different needs.

What is not included in Exceptional Student Services

Individualized Literacy Plan (ILP) - Part of the Colorado Basic Literacy Act, literacy plans are designed around students who have difficulty reading. These plans are in-school only and are created by staff, frequently with the assistance of parents. These typically do not carry over into the following school year and can be a part of the RtI process. Also, students may be on a traditional ESS plan, as well as an ILP. ILP plans are not formalized in the sense that they require formal meetings, but they are reviewed every 4-8 weeks to determine effectiveness. The goal is to move students to grade level and remove them from an ILP.

Response to Intervention (RtI) - Response to Intervention is a series of intensive tutoring sessions, designed to help students behind in literacy or math come up quickly to grade level. In-school plans developed by staff, parents frequently are included in the discussions for implementation. Students may be on a traditional ESS plan, as well as an RtI plan. RtI plans are not formalized in the sense that they require formal meetings, but they are reviewed every 6-9 weeks to determine effectiveness. The goal is to move students out of the RtI process, with no further need for intervention.
